Camp Wangoma

Welcome To YMCA Camp Wangoma

YMCA Camp Wangoma
YMCA Camp Wangoma began in 1956 on 150 pristine acres of land on Wanamaker Lake in the Hastings Highlands, east of Bancroft, Ontario. Under the aegis of the East York YMCA the philosophy of the camp was to use canoe tripping and outdoor education to develop a camper’s life skills and nurture his growth as a young man.

With a capacity for 127 boys between the ages of eight and sixteen and a staff of forty eight including waterfront and out-trip directors, crafts instructor, section directors, and camp counsellors, the true backbone of the camp, Camp Wangoma flourished for the next 17 years offering life changing and life affirming experiences to both camper and staff member alike.

YMCA Camp Wangoma Alumni
The YMCA Camp Wangoma Alumni is a volunteer fellowship of former staff members and campers. Our goal is to keep the history and rich heritage of Camp Wangoma and its surrounding community alive by informing and educating those who have the opportunity to experience the true spirit of camping that we Alumni have cherished for so many years. We sincerely hope that our ongoing interest and involvement will ensure the fulfillment of this goal.
